2Morrow, Inc., a leader in offering evidence-based, digital health platforms, announces a $1.5M investment led by Seattle area life science investor WRF Capital. The funding will be used to support growth of 2Morrow’s current platform and expansion into medical grade, digital therapeutic solutions for chronic conditions.

Human behaviors drive over half of today's healthcare costs, and the mental and emotional toll of living with a chronic condition can result in increased instances of depression, anxiety and substance use disorders. The CDC recommends including behavioral modification or therapy in most care plans, however, these treatments are seldom offered due to lack of training, access, stigma or cost. Digitally addressing health through behavioral science, 2Morrow’s expanded platform will make it easier for healthcare providers to prescribe and distribute behavioral programs alongside other treatment options.

“We look forward to partnering with the 2Morrow team as it builds on its experience in the behavior modification arena to make high quality, evidence-based digital therapeutics available,” says Loretta Little, Managing Director, WRF Capital. “Physicians and patients need user-friendly, effective digital solutions that complement currently prescribed treatments.”

While prescribed digital treatments have recently gained traction in healthcare settings, 2Morrow has been a pioneer and leader in the field since 2011. Having collaborated with some of the leading experts in Acceptance & Commitment Therapy research and practice, 2Morrow has participated in multiple clinical trials to inform their evidence-based programs. Most recently, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center completed a Phase 3 clinical trial validating 2Morrow’s exclusively licensed digital health approach to behavior modification specifically for smoking cessation.

“2Morrow is well positioned to take what we have learned about changing behaviors over the years to accelerate the efforts to create medical grade digital therapeutics,” says Jo Masterson, CEO, 2Morrow. “We are excited to have the experienced life science investors at WRF Capital lead this round. In addition, we appreciate the support of the Alliance of Angels, Frontier Angels, Zelkova, and the individual investors who believe in our vision.”

2Morrow Offers Healthcare Workers Free Access to Grief, Loss, and Change Program

Coping with change or loss is difficult even in the best of times. Layered with the complexity of the pandemic, the most resilient of healthcare workers may find themselves struggling. To help, 2Morrow is offering healthcare workers free access to our app-based program for coping with grief, loss and change.

Healthcare workers - we see you!

You take extra shifts when you are exhausted, sacrifice time with your loved ones to take care of others, and comfort those around you though you are scared, too. You do this selflessly, even as your world is changing.

You are dealing with life in new and unexpected ways. Not only the change and loss surrounding the patients and their families that you care for, but also the personal change and loss that you may be experiencing in your own life. That is a lot to carry, and it can feel very heavy.

Coping with change or loss is difficult even in the best of times. Layered with the complexity of the pandemic, even the most resilient may find themselves struggling.

We want to do our small part to help by offering U.S. healthcare workers free access to an app-based program for coping with grief, loss and change. The program focuses on lessons and exercises in noticing thoughts, emotions and feelings that are difficult to control or even explain, as well as taking valued actions toward your own health and self-care. You can sign up for the program at https://2morrowhealth.net/glc-healthcare.

2Morrow thanks you for all that you do. You are appreciated.

GeekWire: New Research from Fred Hutch Shows that an App Can Dramatically Help Smokers Quit

Research that was conducted with the proprietary ACT based technology that 2Morrow exclusively licensed from Fred Hutch is not only a game changer for digital health, but goes beyond that.

n follow-up to publication of a randomized clinical trial supporting efficacy of smartphone applications for smoking cessation in JAMA Internal Medicine, GeekWire talks to 2Morrow CEO, Jo Masterson, about her thoughts. She discusses how the research that was conducted with the proprietary ACT based technology that 2Morrow exclusively licensed from Fred Hutch is not only a game changer for digital health, but goes beyond that.

Jo states, “We’re taking about life and death. And if you get more people to quit, this changes families and lives.”

Large Randomized Clinical Trial Validates 2Morrow’s Digital Health Approach to Behavior-modification and Proves That Apps Can Help Smokers Quit

2Morrow’s proprietary digital health approach to behavior modification continues to be shown effective for helping smokers quit in a large randomized clinical trial conducted by Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and published in JAMA Internal Medicine. The trial showed that Acceptance and Commitment Therapy app users not only were more engaged and satisfied, but at 12 months, were 50% more likely to quit than those using the smartphone application based on the US clinical practice guidelines.

2Morrow, Inc.’s proprietary digital health approach to behavior modification continues to be shown effective for helping smokers quit in a large randomized clinical trial (RCT) conducted by Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and published in JAMA Internal Medicine. The trial followed 2,415 participants for 12 months to determine the efficacy of an Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) based app for smoking cessation vs an app based on US clinical practice guidelines (USCPG). ACT app users not only were more engaged and satisfied, but at 12 months, were 50% more likely to quit than those using the smartphone application based on the USCPG.

“This is a landmark study that fast-forwards the field of digital health, including its critical application during the COVID-19 pandemic helping people who smoke quit,” says Tim McAfee, MD, MPH, Former Director, Office on Smoking & Health, CDC. “The Fred Hutch researchers meticulously recruited and engaged a diverse sample of smokers, successfully retaining over 85% of those for 12 months. The size of the quitting effect and the difference between the ACT app and the comparison app was similar to effects seen in successful drug trials, providing very compelling evidence that using this app will help people quit smoking.”

This study comes at a time when the healthcare industry is experiencing an unprecedented increase in the adoption of digital health services, partly due to COVID-19. This study provides a major contribution to the burgeoning area of digital therapeutics (DTx) research that is relatively new and essential for widespread acceptance and adoption of digital tools in healthcare.

In 2013, 2Morrow collaborated with Fred Hutch on the development of an app for one of the first randomized trials of an app for quitting smoking. After that first study, 2Morrow exclusively licensed the proprietary ACT based technology from Fred Hutch. This new research and 2Morrow’s commercial products both grew from that early digital health collaboration.

“We are excited about the size, rigor and results of this new study. It provides gold standard evidence and validation that changing behavior through the use of digital therapeutics is highly effective,” says Jo Masterson, CEO, 2Morrow. “I see this research as a major milestone toward realizing the promise of digital health, including increased access, improved outcomes and lower costs.”

2Morrow Launches the First Digital Health Smartphone App to Help Teens and Young Adults Quit Vaping.

2Morrow, a leader in pioneering scientifically tested, digital health solutions for people addicted to nicotine announces a new app for teens and young adults who want to quit vaping. The app was created in collaboration with the Washington State Department of Health and launched in Washington state this week. 2Morrow plans to expand access to other parts of the country soon.

2Morrow, Inc., a leader in pioneering scientifically tested, digital health solutions for people addicted to nicotine announces a new app for teens and young adults who want to quit vaping. The app was created in collaboration with the Washington State Department of Health and launched in Washington state this week. 2Morrow plans to expand access to other parts of the country soon.

The youth vaping epidemic continues to worsen with the Center for Disease Control (CDC) preliminarily reporting that over 25% of high school students have used nicotine vape products in the last 30 days. In addition, the CDC, U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), state and local health departments, and other clinical and public health partners reported that they are investigating a multi-state outbreak of lung injury associated with e-cigarette product use or vaping.

“We are deeply concerned by the rapid rise in youth e-cig use and recent news of young people with serious vaping related lung disease and even deaths,” said Jo Masterson, Chief Product Officer, 2Morrow. “With vaping, a new generation is becoming addicted to nicotine and this addiction makes it hard to quit. Quitting any form of nicotine is not easy, however there are proven strategies that can help if we can get young people to use them. One way to increase access is to deliver these programs privately via a smartphone app.”

2Morrow is uniquely qualified to help people deal with nicotine addiction, including vaping. This new vaping program has been adapted and developed from a scientifically tested smoking cessation program that was designed in collaboration with researchers from the Fred Hutch Cancer Research Center in Seattle. That program was the first cessation app to be tested in a randomized control trial. 2Morrow’s nicotine addiction programs have been used by over 75,000 tobacco users across the U.S. and are distributed via state programs, employers, wellness programs and health plans.

The new vaping app offers a full, stand-alone program that incorporates proven behavioral strategies and tools, with personalized support through daily lessons and text-based messages. Users learn how to address their cravings, urges, and unhelpful thoughts to move toward their goal of quitting using clinical best practices from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), a widely accepted behavior change model. The program provides a private, personalized and non-judgmental experience.

“Not only does the app offer an innovative model of cessation support, but it enables us to reach Millennials – people who have so much life to gain by quitting,” said Nick Fradkin, Tobacco Cessation Consultant, Washington State Department of Health. “As such, we are particularly proud to feature this resource to young adults as our state implements Tobacco and Vapor 21 next year.”

2Morrow is excited to launch this program in Washington state to tackle vaping with an app specifically designed for this vulnerable population. 2Morrow is also working with other states and organizations to expand program access to other areas. Organizations can learn more about offering the program to their population at www.2morrowinc.com/vaping-cessation

Department of Health Launches New App for Teens and Young Adults Who Vape.

The Washington State Department of Health is announcing a new smartphone app to help teens and young adults quit vaping. Developed collaboratively with 2Morrow Inc., the app is available for free to Washingtonians and is accessible via smartphone, tablet, laptop and desktop computer.

The Washington State Department of Health is announcing a new smartphone app to help teens and young adults quit vaping. Developed collaboratively with 2Morrow Inc., the app is available for free to Washingtonians at doh.wa.gov/quit and is accessible via smartphone, tablet, laptop and desktop computer.

“This app is a promising resource to help tackle the youth vaping epidemic in our state,” said Dr. Kathy Lofy, state health officer. “By making tools to quit accessible via smartphone and computer, our hope is that more young people feel empowered to quit vaping.”

The self-guided program includes ten short lessons, advanced messaging protocols and customized tips. Participants learn how to deal with unhelpful thoughts, urges and cravings, and practice moving toward their goal of reducing or quitting vaping. Along the way, they receive daily text-based messages and have the ability to track their progress.

Studies have shown that users of similar 2Morrow cessation programs are six times more likely to quit than those doing it on their own.

“Although we don’t yet understand all the health effects of vaping, we do know that nicotine is very addictive and that it can have negative effects on a maturing brain,” said Jo Masterson, chief product officer at 2Morrow. “Quitting nicotine is not easy. However, there are proven strategies that can help. We believe that using apps to deliver these programs will be more attractive to youth than traditional methods, increasing access and quit attempts.”

According to the Washington State Healthy Youth Survey, approximately 30 percent of high school seniors used vapor products in 2018. In a separate survey 2Morrow conducted, 87.5 percent of teen respondents reported they had considered quitting vaping, and of those, 71.4 percent feel that they will quit before they are 21 years old. However, many teens don’t perceive health risks from vaping, nor the difficulty of quitting once addicted.
